Getting there

Opening hours

Open daily 9:30–18:00. Last admission is 17:00. Closed 24–26 December. On busy summer weekends IWM occasionally opens 30 minutes earlier — check the official IWM page before you set out.

Ticket prices

The adult ticket costs £29.75 until 1 September 2026 and rises to £34 on 2 September. Children aged 5–15 pay half; under-fives and IWM members go free. The standard entry ticket is the same price at the IWM counter and via Headout — for audio-guided or fully guided variants, expect £10–40 more. Live prices are on the home page.

Access

The Churchill War Rooms are wheelchair accessible — step-free entry with lift access to the historic rooms; a small number of side spaces have residual steps and are documented on the IWM accessibility page. Corridors are narrow in places, so small rucksacks are best worn on the front. Parts of the bunker are deliberately dimly lit for atmosphere. Essential companions accompanying disabled visitors are admitted free of charge.

What to bring — and what to leave

No suitcases or large bags — there is no cloakroom on site. Charing Cross station (roughly 10–15 minutes on foot) has commercial left-luggage. Photography for personal use is welcome, but no flash and no tripods. A few marked rooms do not permit photography — the on-site volunteers will point them out.

On site

A café operates on site during museum hours — a quietly memorable place to break the visit. Two shops sell books, prints and IWM-designed souvenirs. Look for the volunteers in red uniforms: trained by IWM and happy to help you get the most from the day.
